  A Santa Cruz Jewel Garden

 BEFORE

This beautiful little garden was created out of a long-time desire to beautify a plain unused backyard into a garden that was both useful and scenic. The owner had a wish list from magazine articles and could barely contain her excitement over having some of these ideas come to life in her little part of the world. She had some problem areas like disguising the triplex at the back of the property that they used occasionally when relatives came to visit so it had to somehow be incorporated into the design.

Also her new puppy, Hildy, a lab mix, was digging and needed a spot of her own for her own needs. She loves garden art and arbors which would figure into the new design also. Color-wise, the client wanted bright jewel colors that pop, the brighter the better. This assignment was fun.

 AFTER

The design I created for this client contained everything she had ever imagined. Seating areas for her husband to read his morning paper, other areas to enjoy the views into the garden and still other areas that are used by the triplex patio. White roses, purple 'Jackmanii' clematis on the trellis', bright pink azaleas, blue peter pan agapanthus, lavender asters, orange daylillies, and a vivid purple princess flower patio tree next to the flagstone sitting area. The arbor is covered with Golden Showers roses completing the charming little garden.

The owner has been adding more garden art as she finds pieces she likes and they have been spending all the time they can get out in their new garden. Hildy, the dog, has been trained to use her little spot making everybody happy.
